do you have to have a pap smear once a year after you have had a hysterectomy?

and do I still need breast cancer screenings at 68?

Natalie , I am scheduling a visit to my primary care Doc and I was wondering ( after listening to you) what screening  would you suggest for a woman of 70 yrs?

@Natalie_C - I think it's very hard to find a good doctor......I prefer a women, but haven't found one in my area.  I do not like my doctor but I do go every year, have all my routine tests and blood work, but have a hard time telling him any issues I may feel at the time.  Any suggestions?

As an older woman (60's), I am finding that my annual wellness checks are laughable.  What should I be doing? I do have a yearly mammogram because of a family history, but that's about it.  Thanks.

@TerriW904 That really is something for you and your doctor to chat about.  It really depends on your health history and your family history.  Everyone is different, but a great conversation to have with your physician.

@EllieH98 That is really something that you and your doctor would have to discuss based on health history and family health history.  I'd do a little research before and ask your doctor's office if they have a list of screenings they do broken down by age group.  Make a list of any concerns you have so they know that may be something to screen for.  The best way to prepare is to go in armed with knowledge!

@kmariem I'd start with listing your expectations of your visit.  What are you hoping to have occur?  Then I'd address those concerns with your doctor.  If you don't feel like you are getting the service you seek, I'd start asking around for a new doctor.  Never be afraid or embarrassed or ashamed to ask for the service you deserve!!  Especially when it comes to your health.

@Jojo3 I always recommend my clients start with their circle - that women they workout with, church friends, girlfriends, even women that you go for hair, nails, spa services  . . . ask if they like their OBGYN and if they would recommend them.

@Karen_C - Those are excellent resources!  I will start asking! Thank You!!
